What to know about Turkish transcription

  • Turkish has dotted and dotless i (İ/i and I/ı). Generic lowercasing breaks words; use Turkish-aware case folding (for example toLocaleLowerCase("tr")) in search.
  • Turkish is agglutinative: one long word can carry several suffixes. Search and keyword spotting work better on stems than on exact words.
  • Turkish speakers in Germany and the Netherlands mix in German or Dutch words. Send tr when Turkish dominates.

Choosing a model

Start with oracle (US$1.44 per hour) for production Turkish audio. Questions and answers

Why does search miss words in my Turkish transcripts?

Usually case folding: "I".toLowerCase() is not "ı". Use Turkish locale rules and stem the words.

Can I translate Turkish audio to German?

Yes, with an Oracle model and translate_to: "de".
